Joel Cala­han is a free­lance writer and trans­la­tor, and grad­u­ate stu­dent in com­par­a­tive lit­er­a­ture at the Uni­ver­sity of Chicago. His writ­ing about music has appeared in many places, includ­ing Dusted and Signal to Noise, and his lit­er­ary trans­la­tions have appeared in Cir­cum­fer­ence, Auf­gabe, and on the web­site Exper­i­men­tal Lan­guage Fac­tory.
